PLAY IDEA: Spaghetti Sensory Play for Babies and Toddlers

pasta2pasta5
Hi guys!

My name is Maria and I blog over at Pastels & Macarons. A blog about all things female and motherhood. The main things I blog about are mums, kids, babies, home decor, DIY Projects, Craft and Travel. I'm so happy to be guest blogging for Charlene!

I have two sons. Locky my 26 month old and Cooper my baby who is 10 months old. I'm always looking for ways to entertain my kids with new and fun activities even if it means cleaning up masses of mess! Sensory play is so much fun and so vital for their development.

I decided to give Spaghetti play a go with Cooper to see if he enjoyed it and how he went about playing with it.
I'm an Australian expat living in Belgium so while you guys over in New Zealand and Australia suffer the effects a cold winter, we have been enjoying our summer months and I've had the kids outside every single day while the weather is beautiful.

I layed out a large piece of fabric for Cooper to sit on and puree room temperature pre-cooked pasta for him to dive into and enjoy. At first he looked at me funny but as soon as he started touching it he soon realised this was for real and it was on. He LOVED it!

Of course he ate so much spaghetti I though his belly would explode but that's only natural for a baby who's natural instincts is to learn the world around him by tasting and touching everything in sight. Warning: Do not be silly like I was and place this activity in front of him just before lunch time... Both my boys started eating the living life out of this activity and turns out my neighbours where outside and can see directly into my back yard... They probably think this is how I treat and feed my children! I really hope not. How embarrassing! Haha! You got to laugh at these things. Here is an example of Locky scoffing his face with pasta... you would think mummy hasn't fed him for a week!

If you where my neighbour you would probably be thinking the same thing right? Oh dear... my bad! So yes, do not make the same mistake unless you want someone to potentially call the authorities on you. Lucky for me this didn't happen. Haha.

What you will need for Spaghetti Sensory Play For Babies And Toddlers:

1. Spaghetti cooked and cooled to room temperature. Make sure to not over cook the pasta so it stays in one piece.

2. A large sheet to place baby and the spaghetti on.

3. Any other toys and objects you with to add to the mix. This is not effectual. The spaghetti should be more than enough!

I ended up having both the boys playing for what felt like ages with this pasta. Pulling at it, mashing it, throwing it. You mane is they did it. It was so much fun. I decided not to add food colouring but you can certainly do it if you prefer. Cooper was so excited at the whole activity (as you can see by his cheesy little face in the photo above) and I loved watching him giggle and squeal the whole time. It's definitely an activity will will certainly do again. He loved the texture and feeling it between his little fingers. He also of course loved eating it! if you're looking for a fun and easy activity to do with your baby or toddler then I recommend this one. It's not much effort on your behalf and you can sit bak, enjoy a cup of coffee and watch them go!
