O is for Op-Shopping

Op-shop, Charity shop, Thrift shop or store, Opportunity shop or Second-Hand Store - where ever you are in the world and whatever you call it - I LOVE IT! A retail establishment that is run by a charitable organisation to raise money. Op-shops are filled with all sorts - clothing & shoes, books, toys, furniture, bric-a-brac and much, much more. It's true what they say...One man's trash is another man's treasure!

I love op-shopping, especially when I find myself a bargain or two. I have been an op-shopper since I was a teenager and have collected a variety of items over the years. In my 20's, most of my clothes came from the Op-shop and so did most of the items in my home (unless they were from family & friends). I am drawn to op-shops, if I see one I can't help but pop in and have a quick look.

I enjoy browsing through op-shops because I don't know what I'm going to find and most times I will find something really cool. There are times when I go to op-shops in the hope I find a specific piece of clothing or something I need for our home, and thankfully our city has quite a few op-shops for me to choose from, so I can shop around.

Like I said above, op-shops are retail establishments that are run by charitable organisation to raise money. I not only purchase items from op-shops, I also donate to them. The charities are very important, so it's nice to know I am doing my part to help out.

Some of my favourite purchases:
Giant Pink Panther $10
Giant Melman (from Madagascar) $10
Clothes - I have found some really cool items (too many to name)
Drawers $10 - I up-cycled these drawers (pictured) for my son - See: DIY Giraffe Inspired Drawers
Bed base + trundler bed for $20
Bric-a-brac (too many to name)
Little Golden Books (for Master M's First Birthday)
Handbags - I had a bit of fetish for handbags back in the day - I had over 30 at one stage!
plus many more...

Do you love op-shopping? What was your BEST buy or the last thing you bought from an Op-shop?

  1. I love op-shopping! I worked at Goodwill in high school and have enjoyed it ever since. We have the most fantastic swap shop in the next town over. I can spend hours wandering that place :)

    1. Oh I wish I had hours to spend in op-shops, just to have a good browse through everything - that would be amazing! Swap shops would be awesome to visit too!
