R is for Reading Nook Inspiration

Encouraging and supporting reading in the home is very important to me - from a teacher perspective but also as a mother. Last week, I shared some Play Space Inspiration and while I was admiring all the play spaces - I spotted a few gorgeous reading nooks. I am a huge fan of 'nooks', in fact I wouldn't be surprised if every room in our new home will have one.

What I love about reading nooks is that they are simple, cozy and inviting for children (and adults). It can be set up in a corner or area in the home, where it is preferably well lit or near a window for natural light. Add some cushions, blankets & a few favourite toys and it becomes a child's favourite place to chill out and read a book. Books are easily accessible for young children (at eye level) - stored in baskets and bins or on the wall in little shelves (perfect little DIY project). Reading nooks are not just for books either, you can mix it up by using a variety of reading materials e.g. magazines, newspapers, word cards, a range of books (different genre etc), paper and pencils/pens. You can also add in a few toys to keep fiddly fingers pre-occupied. I am looking forward to creating this fun, yet educational space in our home.

Here are some amazing Reading Nooks I am loving RIGHT NOW!
As you walk into the room, you are welcomed by a corner library. Absolutely love how they have utilised the wall space. I would be totally tempted to grab a book from the shelf. find a cozy spot to sit and read. What do you think?

I really like the monogram letters. I came across a post that has some great DIY Letter Decor Ideas. Spice Racks or DIY shelves are perfect to display books too.

I like the simplicity of this reading nook - displaying of the books using shelves, a bean bag and some funky curtains. I would love to read a book in this space.

Do you have a Reading Nook in your home? Please share your ideas.

  5. Just gorgeous, love the idea of a reading nook. We are lucky to have a whole room set aside as a library in our home but I'd love to add a nook when we renovate the room, I just can't decide between a window seat or something like your last picture

  7. Oooh, reading nooks! I love them. We don't have a dedicated reading nook space in our current home, although I have my eye on our spare room, seeing as we never have overnight visitors anyway.....so many cute ideas thanks to this post!

  8. Great motivation!! I've thought of setting up a little reading nook in the kid's bedrooms but haven't done so yet. It would just be some cushions in front of their bookcases. My 5-year-old is really in to reading at the moment, so should do something while she is so keen. I like the idea of having a reading nook in the lounge that is set up for everyone so the children see that adults like to read too.
